Your life. In two words: food and water. So what happens when war, drought, famine, poverty, and earthquakes leave you without them? When things go wrong, ADRA gives security—steady, dependable access to tons of food and clean water. We save lives (entire families, in fact). But there’s more. The worldwide ADRA team works with people of every age to show them new ways to produce food for their future—including building wells and greenhouses, and assisting with agricultural production. In the process, people regain control of their own lives.
ADRA-UK is supporting small farmers in the Fandriana region of Madagascar to increase their rice crop yields through the introduction of better techniques, improved seeds and equipment. ADRA also supports the farmers in marketing their crops in order to receive an income to purchase other essential foods as part of a balanced diet.
ADRA-UK instructed farmers to apply new techniques to process cassava into flour. Through the value-added process farmers can now gain a better profit, and reduce transportation costs to get their produce to the market. ADRA also introduced new crops to the farmers, which helped to diversify their produce and better target what they grow in relation to demand.
