The situation in September in Eastern and Northern Uganda is just getting worse as the heavy rains continue to pour down. So far 300,000 people have been affected in the Teso region while 120,000 have been affected in Mt. Elgon region. 21 lives have so far been lost, 174 schools have been affected and closed down, bridges and roads have been destroyed and washed away by the flood waters. Gardens have been turned into lakes and crops submerged. Children, women, new mothers and the elderly are all stranded and trapped by the flood waters.

Malaria cases have now more than doubled and the most affected are children, pregnant women and people with HIV/AIDS. Cases of diarrhoea are also on the increase and it is feared that these will continue to increase as the rains continue to contaminate and destroy water sources.
While the situation as it is now is already appalling, the rains are expected to continue until November!
ADRA-UK is providing financial assistance for the network response to bring relief in the form of plastic sheets, tents, food, antibiotics, first-line drugs against malaria and diarrhoea, water containers and water guard. Mobile toilets are also needed.
Our emergency funds are quickly being depleted and we need your help. Please donate online at www.adra.org.uk, or by sending a cheque to ADRA-UK, Stanborough Park, Watford, WD25 9JZ.
